Olivia Bernstein is an Associate in ENSafrica’s tax practice.
Olivia specialises in corporate tax, energy tax and international tax.
Her experience includes advising on direct corporate tax, withholding taxes, tax administration and tax compliance, as well as the setting up of new operations in South Africa, tax aspects of various corporate transactions in the listed and unlisted environment, and conducting tax due diligences.
In addition, Olivia has advised clients in the energy, mining, retail, private equity and banking sectors and/or industries. Olivia is also experienced in advising corporates on tax-efficient structuring and related issues pertaining to investment and ownership transactions, including loans, equity, preference share funding and notional vendor financing arrangements, and devising employee compensation and retention plans. Olivia also advises clients on the tax treatment of energy projects and carbon tax, as well as South African exchange control regulatory matters and the taxation of sportspersons and non-profit entities. Her experience further includes preparing submissions to Government on various tax Acts, drafting VAT and income tax rulings to the South Africa Revenue Service, preparing applications to the South African Reserve Bank, drafting VAT and income tax opinions, compiling transaction structuring memorandums, as well as drafting and reviewing legal agreements.
