Aidan Scallan is an Executive at ENS in the Anti-trust/Competition practice. He works on competition law matters relating to South Africa as well as many other African jurisdictions, including COMESA and CEMAC. He advises on all aspects of competition law, including merger control, prohibited practices, cartel conduct, dawn raids, abuses of dominance and corporate leniency policies. Aidan also practiced for several years at a magic circle firm in the United Kingdom where he gained particular insight into the operation of complex cross-border M&A transactions. 

Aidan has significant expertise working closely with clients on high-profile and complex transactions across a broad range of industries.  Aidan has also acted for parties in numerous contested mergers, including several transactions that have been re-considered by the Competition Tribunal and appealed to the Competition Appeal Court.  Industries where Aidan has advised clients include financial services (banking, asset management, insurance, payments and credit card issuing), energy, agriculture, gaming and betting, shipping and logistics, telecommunications, mining, online platforms and other ‘big tech’, FMCG and healthcare.

As a result of his international experience, Aidan is well placed to advise clients on South Africa’s pending foreign investment protection laws.

Aidan contributes frequently to local and international publications and has presented at a number of conferences on competition law.
