ENSafrica remembers Beric Croome
We regret to inform you that Dr Beric Croome passed away on 22 April 2019. He will be sadly missed, but while we mourn his passing, we remember and acknowledge his many accomplishments and the enduring contribution Beric has made to the lives of many.
Beric was an advocate of the High Court of South Africa, a chartered accountant, and an executive in ENSafrica’s tax department for 19 years.
Considered an authority on South African taxpayer rights, Beric was a nominee for the University of the Witwatersrand’s Convocation Honour Award for his contribution to South African commerce and industry.
As an avid writer and academic, Beric authored and co-authored several books and columns in prominent South African publications, and was also the South African branch reporter for the International Fiscal Association. He was also invited to provide the keynote address at a graduation ceremony at the University of the Witwatersrand’s Faculty of Commerce, Law and Management. In addition, Beric was chair of SAICA’s Tax Administration sub-committee, and served on the National Tax Policy committee of the South African Institute of Tax Practitioners.
Should you wish to make a memorial contribution, Beric and his family have requested that any donations be made in his memory to the University of Cape Town’s LAW150 project, which helps underprivileged tax law students. A taxman to the core, Beric pointed out that any donations made are tax-deductible under section 18A of the Income Tax Act.
