Darren Band

Darren Band is an Executive at ENS in the Dispute Resolution practice.
He brings over two decades of experience in high-value litigation and commercial dispute resolution. He is highly regarded for his expertise in mining litigation, contract and corporate disputes, and regulatory and administrative law, with a particular emphasis on complex, precedent-setting matters spanning the mining and resources, real estate, hospitality, gaming, insurance, and healthcare sectors.
Darren has acted as lead attorney in numerous high-profile cases before the High Court, Supreme Court of Appeal, and Constitutional Court of South Africa, as well as in private commercial arbitrations. His work is distinguished by his strong legal analysis, strategic planning, and adept negotiation skills.
A significant portion of Darren’s practice has been dedicated to advising and representing clients in the South African mining sector, particularly in disputes concerning mineral rights under the South African mining legislation (MPRDA). He has successfully represented major mining houses in landmark cases involving disputes over competing mining and prospecting rights.
Darren also has significant experience advising clients in the gaming and hospitality sectors and was most recently recognised for his key role in the firm’s involvement in a wide range of disputes in the life sciences sector.
His expertise and leadership have been recognised by industry accolades, including being named a leading/recommended lawyer by Who’s Who Legal (Mining – South Africa) for several consecutive years. Most recently, Darren was part of the ENS team awarded African Law Firm of the Year at the 2025 LMG Life Sciences Awards in London, underscoring his contribution to the firm’s multidisciplinary excellence in the life sciences sector.
