ENS awarded for innovation and excellence in African dealmaking at the 2025 IFLR Africa Awards
At ENS, we believe in pushing boundaries. We strive to create solutions that turn change into opportunity. This spirit of innovation was recognised at the IFLR Africa Awards held in Cape Town on 27 March 2025.
These awards are unique for their focus on legal innovation through dealmaking, be it by testing new legal frameworks, creating new structures or setting benchmarks for others to follow. They celebrate legal ingenuity that improves the cross-border investment environment and highlight some of the most notable of achievements of 2024 from across the African continent.
ENS received the following accolades:
- National Law Firm of the Year: South Africa
- Team of the Year: Capital Markets (Regional) and M&A (Regional)
In addition, ENS advised on two deals which were awarded Deal of the Year:
Deal of the year: Loans
For our role in advising CrossBoundary Energy Ghana Ltd in relation to USD300-million term facilities and up to USD50-million revolving facilities granted by The Standard Bank of South Africa Limited to CrossBoundary Energy Holdings and secured by CrossBoundary Energy Ghana Ltd

We are also pleased to report that our Chairman, Michael Katz, was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award. This recognition is richly deserved. Michael’s relentless pursuit of excellence and unparalleled client service have shaped not only our firm, but also the legal landscape in South Africa and beyond.
ENS CE, Mzi Mgudlwa, said, "Innovation is a journey, and we're honoured to be on that journey with our clients, driving transformative deals across Africa. These awards acknowledge that shared commitment.”
