Public invited to comment on amendments to Financial Provisioning Regulations

On 22 April 2021, Barbara Creecy (Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment) published a notice inviting the public to consult regarding her intention to amend the transitional arrangements contained in the Financial Provisioning Regulations, 2015 (published under GNR.1147 of 20 November 2015, as amended).

Currently, existing holders of mining rights (or other rights), granted in terms of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act, 2002, are required to comply with the Financial Provisioning Regulations by 19 June 2021.

The minister intends to amend the Financial Provisioning Regulations to extend this date by one more year, 19 June 2022.

The public are invited to submit written comments or inputs within 30 days of the publication of the notice (ie, 22 May 2021). Comments must be submitted via email to dfischer@environment.gov.za or by post to:
