Seasoned IP lawyer and pharmaceutical specialist joins ENSafrica
ENSafrica, Africa’s largest law firm, is pleased to announce that André Maré has joined the firm as a director in the intellectual property (“IP”) department.
André has over 14 years’ experience and specialises in the IP aspects of the pharmaceutical industry, general commercial and transactional IP matters, and trade mark portfolio management and prosecution. His expertise also includes pharmaceutical patents, domain name management and enforcement, IP licensing strategies and anti-trust concerns around the commercialisation of IP. He is a qualified Trade Mark Practitioner and his appointment bolsters the IP team’s already impressive transactional IP offering and the firm’s specialist pharmaceutical capabilities.
André began his career at Morrison Forster Inc (which merged with ENSafrica in 2011). He left Morrison Forster Inc but remained in private practice, specialising in commercial IP matters for several years.
André was then approached by Aspen Pharmacare to establish and head up its in-house IP department. Over the course of seven years, André and his team built the Aspen IP department into a world class and award nominated IP department using custom systems and technologies. His team’s focus was on understanding the commercial intersection with IP assets and how these can be leveraged to the advantage of the company. He was also exposed to many foreign law firms and international best practices for dealing with IP matters.
Gaelyn Scott, head of ENSafrica’s IP department said, “André’s appointment, together with ENSafrica’s current commercial IP team, creates a commercial IP offering that is unparalleled in Africa. In addition, together with the firm’s existing specialist expertise in the pharmaceutical regulatory space, André’s appointment presents an opportunity for the firm to be a more sought after advisor to clients in the pharmaceutical industry. His versatile experience in both private and in-house practice in the pharmaceutical field in major jurisdictions throughout the world will be a valuable asset to our clients.”
ENSafrica is an independent law firm with over 200 years of experience. The firm has over 600 practitioners in 14 offices on the continent, in Ghana, Mauritius, Namibia, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda.
